CT Scan (Initiative)
Lung cancer is now the UK's most deadly form of cancer, killing around 35,000 people each year. That's more the breast cancer and prostate cancer. Combined.
The main reason for this is because it's incredibly hard to detect, and in 75% of cases, the cancer has already progressed to stage III or IV, by which point it's too late.
But this year, an NHS study revealed that early screening using CT scans could reduce the mortality rate by detecting 70% of cases at stage I or II, when it is still operable.
Our idea is to use the medium of a CT scan to raise awareness of this news, and lobby for the introduction of a national screening programme that would save thousands of lives, as it has done already with breast cancer.
